...is SO much better when my Soldier is here!
Today is day 2 of R&R. We're just hanging out here in Neenah (I now know the answer to the question "Where the hell is Neenah?", hahaha). I can't imagine anything better in my life right now than spending these 2 weeks with my hubby.
So, his flight was LATE...not on it's own accord. He tried to get here earlier and switched flights. GREAT idea in theory. However, the plane that he had changed to required maintenance and he would have been stuck in Atlanta until Sunday...so he got a seat on a flight into Minneapolis ---first class!--- and arrived in Green Bay at 10:30 pm. It was the LONGEST DAY of my life!
I have NEVER gotten butterflies about homecoming before, but I was nervous. Last R&R, his parents were at Fort Campbell, and that was priority. First homecoming, I didn't know what to expect. Last homecoming, I was up to my ears in FRG responsibilities. So this know-how-it-happens and no-responsibilities had me in touch with my feelings about it...and yup, I was nervous. And over tired. I don't know if I slept at all between when he called from Kuwait and when we hit the hotel here. Okay, 10 to 40 minutes here or there, but that a full night of sleep does NOT make! I was exhausted!
So far we've spent 2 nights here in Neenah. We've had the chance to try out a pizza joint here...Cranky Pat's. MMMMMMMMM....that's pretty much all I've got! We've walked in some beautiful weather during the day...makes me want to drive up and walk around Door County this coming week. Maybe we will! Who knows. Yesterday we hung out in the pool...today, the pool is closed. I'm actually NOT happy with the staff here at the Days Inn. They spend a lot of time sitting in the breakfast daybreak area and not a lot of time working. I don't know why the pool that I searched so hard for is closed, but they are not doing a damn thing to get it back open for my vacationing butt. *sigh*...I'm not happy about it.
Tomorrow morning, we head back to Green Bay for the rest of R&R. Next weekend is already full...fish with Mom on Friday; baptism preparations and a Gamblers home game on Saturday; baptism and Packer game on Sunday. The following weekend is an early Halloween party on Friday night with the girls; an early birthday celebration for Neil on Saturday; and R&R is over already on Sunday morning. *sigh* Our vacation is MUCH too short!
But I am enjoying every minute with Neil while he's here. I have learned not to take any of it for granted. So, as the Packer game winds down with 8:57 left in the game, I am going to go curl up with my handsome, sexy hubby.
Life is good!

We're Not Even Halfway...but it's SO worth it!
So today is it! Today, I am heading to the airport to pick up the hubby. Nope, we're NO WHERE near half-way, but this has already been one HELL of a deployment! If can break, it pretty much has. I spent almost 17 days sicker than a dog. This has BEYOND sucked! So, yup, I'm seriously looking forward to this!
Car decorated -CHECK
Outfit picked out- CHECK
Hotel booked for 3 nights- CHECK
Yup yup yup...this is pretty much gonna ROCK IT!!!!
So if I fall off the edge of the digital universe for a week or so, I haven't fallen far...just into the arms of my Soldier!

...in case you missed the 4am Facebook status update...
Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls...if you would direct your attention to the center ring... Now, straight from her limited engagement at the local nut house, for your viewing entertainment, our very own Nikki "I need a day at the spa (paid for by someone else of course)" Demerath.
Watch closely as she pulls out her hair in a hairried path to project completion. Notice how she laughs in the face of sleep. Observe her unique style of multi-tasking, multi-faceted disorganization. And "why", you may ask? Because she BELIEVES in the program. She knows that the efforts she puts in are not futile. She knows that helping to build and sustain surviving and thriving Families is crutial to sustaining the all-volunteer force that protects and defends her, her country, and her way of life. She knows that everyone has a role -a niche- and this is hers. She has learned this from her mentors and from those who have supported her and who she helps to support who then turn to do the same for others. She knows this is so much more, so much bigger than one person, one Family, one group of volunteers, one unit. And she is honored to serve in her small, seemingly insignifcant -somedays more challenging then others- way. And she is Blessed and honored to have found friends and other volunteers with the same drive and passion; honored to be among them and to call them friends. She is Blessed and thankful for her supporting Family; her blood relatives and her Army Family who support, encourage, and are willing work beside her. She is Blessed to meet more Families who, through their own tough times, are not only surviving but are determined to THRIVE and join the cause to support and build EVERY ARMY FAMILY through communication, information and education. She is in AWE of the incredible network of support and caring she has came into and is continuing to help build. She is Blessed and thankful to those who have trusted her enough to give her the opportunities she has gotten to care and grow with the Army Family.
If you think any of the above may describe you...know you have helped shape who and what I am today; my actions and speach; what I work towards daily; and my desire to serve Families. I am thankful for each and everyone one of you, and the opportunities you have given me...the things you help me realize and then to achieve...the support and motivation you provide. I am truly BLESSED to know you all and have you in my life. There are too many to call out by name; you all deserve the best in life and a HUGE (((HUG)))...yet those aren't enough! Know that I do my best daily to honor you in all I do. Thank you all so much!

I Do NOT Need a Day
After dealing with idiots all day (yes, I ventured out in public...not just in my head), I have determined that it must have been Post-wide "Piss Nikki Off" day. Unfortunately, NO ONE told me.
I started on a trek for lunch (Burger King), a gatorade (shoppette), and the laundrette (TN shoppette). Figured an hour and a half ---TOPS. HA!
So I went to airfield. Figured I could kill two birds with one stone...lunch from Burger King, first. A veggie burger (I like them, so sue me) with mayo, pickles, onions, tomatoes and lettuce. And an OJ. To go. Grabbed my bag, headed to the shoppette side for gatorade. Yes, I should have used my bank card instead of my Star card...but heck, USAA reimburses me the $2.00 ATM fee, so I'll just suck it up instead of kicking myself. Okay...back into the car and over to the TN shoppette for laundry (it's less crowded with more machines).
So I pull into the lot, and hit the ATM. And walk over to the shoppette to get singles for the change machine. Only to discover that I HAVE TO BUY SOMETHING TO GET SMALLER BILLS! WHAT?!?!?!? When the hell did that crap start? Okay, whatever. Where the hell is the gum? ?????? Yeah, never did find it. Bought an overpriced granola bar instead. Walked back to the laundrette side...TO FIND OUT THE CHANGE MACHINES ARE OUT OF ORDER! Only today, trust me. You HAVE to be kidding me!!!! Yes, it came out of my mouth as I stomped out of the laundrette and threw my laundry back in the car. I was NOT going back to the shoppette to buy something else to get quarters. NO FRIGGEN' WAY.
Okay, fine. There is a bank and a credit union on this post.
...which I found out that you need to have an account at to get change at. Okay, first of all. WHAT??????
Are you serious? Bank of America wanted a fee...FORGET THAT! Fort Campbell Federal Credit Union demanded I be a member period. Now, let me see if I understand this FCFCU, I just spent $2 to get $10 out of your damn ATM and you won't trade me the $10 bill for a roll of friggen' quarters???? Is there a national quarter shortage I don't know about? Why do I have to know a fricken' secret handshake to get change????
WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!
So, after practically throwing myself through the glass doors at FCFCU (it was 4pm and they locked the doors already), I sat in my car and cried and cursed for about 10 minutes. Actually had like 3 people knock on my window and ask if I was okay. Not a good place to have a break down apparently.
Okay, last resort. The cashier's cage at the PX. THANK GOD they still exchanged paper money for rolls of coin without having to know a secret handshake or whatever. It probably helped that I was on the verge of tears when I asked the poor lady if she could do that for me.
So, off to the Lee Village Shoppette and laundrette. By this time I have been out of the house for an hour. SUCKS! But the laundrette was empty when I got there...clothes in and out of the washer and dryer.
...and you know what just put the icing on my craptastic day? I FINALLY went to eat the sandwich I ordered from BK...and IT WAS A DOUBLE CHEESE BURGER INSTEAD OF A VEGGIE BURGER!!! I could have understood if it had been busy, but I was the ONLY person in there (I think my presence broke up a poker game in the back, actually). Hell, I was order number 17 FOR THE DAY! ...and the OJ tasted like crap (of course, just about everything does right now...side effect of the amoxicillin-type stuff I have 5 days left of). So I just came home and had soup.
The only peace of mind I have about the whole day is that one day they will all get theirs. And, yes, I will laugh.

"Sending Signals"...and "Neogotiations"
Really? HELLO WORLD...North Korea's been at this "We want this or that but we're not going to listen to your rules and our people will be the ones to suffer" crap SINCE THE 1950'S! C'mon!
Look. I'm not trained in international politics. However, it's not really that difficult. You don't let the bad guys run the talks! How long do you 'send signals' before you come to the conclusion that they JUST DON'T GET IT...or just don't care? I mean, I understand diplomatic courtesy, etc, etc. but this is beginning to be ridiculous! And these 'neogotiations'? C'mon! The only people getting anything out of this is the North Korean government...and then they violate the rules anyway and we either look the other way or if we punish them it's the people, not the government, who suffer. ...and if we're waiting for the people to rise up, well, um, don't see that happening.
No, I don't have a solution. BUT somebody needs to come up with SOMETHING...because this just isn't working. Anybody else think it's a little crazy?

As I am sitting here...
So, this morning, for reasons unknown to me, my alarm clock never went off. Sucks. I was supposed to be at an AFTB course. Never flippin' fails.
I decided instead to listen to some music and browse the web (both which were in the plans for yesterday but got nixed because of some idiot issues). Just hanging out commenting on Facebook, browsing sites and listening to 2 albums that I downloaded on iTunes last week but hadn't gotten around to.
I can't believe I waited this long to buy these albums. Okay, I'll admit it. I'm still kind of holding a grudge that these 2 adult men just can get over their issues and work together again. But since I don't EVER see that happening (and I do understand. Personal differences of opinions have ruined more than one relationship and no one should be forced to work with someone for my benefit. I get it. But....), I went and downloaded 3 albums -altho I've already heard most of the one.
All I can say is OH MY GOD THESE MEN ARE MUSICAL GENIUSES!
Don't believe me? Go listen to the albums. In order of my preference...
Chinese Democracy by Guns N' Roses (Axl Rose is a songwriting MASTERMIND! Not to mention I love his voice!...doesn't hurt that he's hotttt too =D SO worth the 14 year wait on this album! Not a song I don't LOVE! )
Slash by Slash (LOVE that man's guitar! All that talent wrapped up in one hottt man! One of the best guitarists ever? How about THE best.)
Contraband by Velvet Revolver (again...HELLO Slash!)
...didn't take me for a hard rock girl? Don't underestimate me...
....just sayin'...

Reasons that I LOVE Thrifting...
Okay, I have to admit that one of the greatest reasons (other than Family) to come to Green Bay for me is the mass amount of thrift and second-hand stores. I LOVE THEM. And one of my favorites by far is St. Vincent de Paul. Today, I managed to spend $9 on cassettes...which doesn't sound bad, until you realize that they are 4 for $1 right now. So that's 36 cassettes! And the 16 I bought Tuesday...well, at least my car has a functioning tape deck =D
But I have to share the COOLEST finds from today.
1) A CD that was part of the 2007/2008 US Army Recruiting package. It's all music by SFC Jamie Buckley. And his music is AWESOME! He is not only a Soldier, but a country musician and SONGWRITER! Head over to www.jamiebuckley.net and check him out!
2) A book-shaped memory box for my nephew...for 50cents! WOO HOO!
Have I mentioned how much I LOVE thrift shops?

Dear People of Green Bay, WI
I've been here a week. You're starting to tick me off.
1) QUIT STARING! Yes, I have magnets on my car. I am sorry you are jealous your car is naked. Would you like me to show you a website where you can buy some support magnets? I know several!
2) YES, IT'S A YELLOW RIBBON. I wear it everyday. Deal with it. I support our Troops. Where's your yellow ribbon? Only losers and terrorists don't actively support our troops. So, that makes you a terrorist...LOSER. (Idiot)
3) Don't randomly attempt to engage me in political conversation and then get pissy when I'm right. Rule of thumb, GET BEHIND OUR TROOPS OR FEEL FREE TO STAND IN FRONT OF THEM! You do NOT know everything because you watch the local news. Don't try to tell me that we shouldn't be in Afghanistan...haven't you seen the headlines about the MURDERS of the 10 aid workers this week? Don't tell me we are no longer in Iraq...I have friends who have Soldiers there RIGHT NOW! Do your homework. If you are going to debate this...know what you are talking about. And then learn to debate with out getting pissy just because I disagree with everything you're saying...
B)...you're freedom of speech applies when the GOVERNMENT is prohibiting you from voicing a well backed and viable opinion; not when you are talking STUPID out your @$$ to me, a private citizen. You may be entitled to your opinion, but I don't want to hear it...and I have that right, too.
4) I swear...if one more teenager walks past my car, glances at my magnets and flips me off...I'm going to do something irrational. Who the heck is raising these unappreciative liberal morons? Really? You're anti-Army? Well, I'm anti- support-your-@$$-because-you-think-skateboarding-is-a-viable-career. There. We're even.
5) While we're on the subject of vehicles...LEARN TO DRIVE. I swear its a different type of stupid here. Today alone, I was almost backed into twice, almost side-swiped 3 times, cut off (with literally just inches to spare!) too many times to count, and almost had 3 or 4 cars try to ride in my trunk! I do understand that MERGE is still a personal challenge, but COME ON! PS, to the twenty-something chick in the black late model VW who passed me this morning on the ramp from 172 East onto 43 North that almost hit me because she was TEXTING, you'd better be VERY glad my mother was in the car...because if she wasn't, you would have had to be thankful we had been that close to Aurora BayCare Medical! Oh don't worry, I wouldn't have hit you...but I bet that when I laid on my horn, you probably would have went THROUGH the guardrail into oncoming traffic!
UGH. I need a stress-relieving massage...I am SO tense.

Back at the "Office"
I'm on vacation. That's what people keep telling me, at least. I'm not exactly sure what that word means; vay-cay-shun. I haven't had one of those in years!
Now, don't get me wrong. I like to be busy. If I'm not, I do stupid stupid stuff...like shop. So, I do my darnedest to stay busy. Lately, I haven't had to try. Why did I think that after the baby shower, this trip would be any different?
First, I'm a little cranky because it's HOT here in Green Bay! I don't know how I survived as a child without air conditioning, but I am a WUSS right now. Mom's house doesn't have it, and I'm a-dying at night. This stinks! I thought it was much cooler up here. Of course, I shouldn't complain too much. It's just plain DREADFUL back at Fort Campbell right now!
Second, Baby "Kaster" (now aptly named Braydon Michael), decided to make a 6 week-earlier-than-planned appearance. First, that moved the baby shower to the hospital. Changing venues took a TON of work. Next, it meant a TON of updates on the health of Braydon and Momma Jessi and Daddy Alby. And, of course, you have to pop into the hospital to ooh and ahh at the little bitty bundle (that's my favorite part).
Next, trying to spend time with the nieces. There are 3 of them and one of me. It gets hectic.
On TOP of all the Family time, I am trying to take time for me. Have I gotten any reading done? NO. Have I had a mani/pedi? Well, if that's what you're going to call the physical TORTURE that I paid someone to do to me today, then yes...but I don't have to be happy about it. Have I hit the mall yet? Not even close.
Oh yes, then there are the nightly treks to Denny's (because the USB broadband I bought didn't work. Stupid Wal-Mart. Stupid Virgin Mobile.), to get online and work. Emails, updates, newsletters, forums, and WAITING (as is becoming the norm) for MWR to post something -anything- that resembles a calendar. *SIGH* What is SO DANG DIFFICULT ABOUT UPLOADING A CALENDAR TO A WEBSITE ON OR BEFORE THE FIRST OF THE MONTH?????? Goodness knows if I am late on something, I would never hear the end of it. But it's perfectly okay for MWR to be...and then be snarky to me when I ask for it to be posted or even just emailed to me. REALLY FOLKS? Grow up. And act professional already!
Okay. I'm going home to go to sleep. Pretty much because I completely forgot exactly where I wanted to go with this post. It was all mapped out in my head 5 minutes ago...now I have no clue. Hopefully that means that when I GET home, I will be able to get some sleep, as the humidity has dropped significantly tonight. (Wow, it might be decent tomorrow! To bad I'm going to have to spend like 5 hours of it indoors scouring EVERY.CAMPBELL.WEBSITE.ON .THE.WORLD.WIDE.WEB. looking for information and dates of events. So much for utilizing Facebook and direct emailing to the fullest of their abilities....but lack of actual work being done by some of these employees is a completely different rant.)
Oh, and I have to go back and listen to this past week's AWTR...I got the first 3 minutes of the main guest and was so upset by what I was hearing, I needed something else. So I listened to the "FRG Leader Forum" episode from August 2009...woo hoo Stephanie and Paula! AWESOME!
Okay kiddos. Off to dream world. Nighty night night
XXXOOO

Maybe it's the lack of sleep...
So this weekend has been rough. No details, but I've gotten about 10 hours of sleep in 3 days. Maybe that's why I'm so pissed off. Probably not.
If you are easily offended, quit reading here!
Anyone still here? Okay. Here's the deal:
1) The WikiLeak-ed US Military Papers.
A) Pretty sure it wasn't just an Army PVT that leaked this material. Get 'em all! If it's not treason, it's at the VERY least espionage. The penalty for either is still up to and including death. Give it to them. Worried about looking like the bad person for executing someone for putting our Soldiers and countrymen in harm's way? I'm not. If you won't do it, I am happy to report I have found my beatin' stilettos and will be happy to inflict pain. Seriously...you leak secret military reports and you think the government is going to be happy? Really? Regardless, you just put a TON of people in danger - whether you named names or not. AND as a US Soldier, your 1st Amendment rights (including free speech, which allows free expression of your opinion) are pretty much moot. You have pledged to up hold the constitution of United States and the safety of this nation and it's people above your own opinion (this is why my hubby doesn't have a blog...oh wait, that's actually because he is phlegmatic and doesn't really HAVE an opinion anyway. Never mind). Deal with it!
B) I don't care if the guy who publishes the website that posted the documents is a Finnish national living in Finland or not. He's just supplied information that can be used in hurting or killing our Soldiers to our enemy. He should be treated like an enemy informant. Get him. If you are providing information to the terrorists, you become a terrorist by association in my book. What's that line? Oh yeah...WHEN IN DOUBT IF IT COULD INTENTIONALLY OR UNINTENTIONALLY CAUSE DEATH OR DESTRUCTION, DON'T POST IT! Idiot!
2) The blow up about the 9/11 First Responders Health Care Bill on the Congress Floor
A) My guess is that the bill wasn't passed because there were other things in or attached to the bill. Unfortunately, that's the easiest -all be it the SNEAKIEST and MOST UNDERHANDED- way to pass things that would piss off the American public...attach it to a bill that the public sees as a GREAT thing, and then just keep mum about them. Get off the Republicans for being the party of "No", and admit that you ALL screwed up this bill for passage. Idiots.
B) Quit name calling, fighting, and yelling at each other on the House floor. Accept that you're not getting your way, come up with changes and/or move on. Crap, man. I learned that BEFORE I went to kindergarten. What's YOUR problem? Our taxes pay for you guys to be working...not fighting like 3 year olds. Idiots.
C) Health care? Another bill? Seriously? Because I'm pretty sure you all just passed a health care bill this year...I mean, it's got to be good, right? TRICARE, which is only the best for our military and their Families, meets the minimum requirements, right? So it should be fine. Besides, who's paying for this (any of it)? Oh wait, that's right...we're pretty much funding everything with Monopoly money because we just HAD to bail everyone else out...it's called SOCIALISM people - big government running Every.Aspect.Of.Your.Life. and funding it with YOUR money without asking you. Didn't work for Germany or Russia. Still have doubts? Ask any Cuban (and you can find lots of them in southern Florida for some weird...oh RIGHT! They're FLEEING CUBA!) how well it's working there...Idiots.
3) While we're on taxes...the Bush-era tax cuts are about to expire. And Congress has NO PLANS to address this until AFTER November! What does this mean for the average American (who makes LESS than $250, 000 a year, by the way HELLO PRESIDENT OBAMA...THAT'S MOST OF AMERICANS!!!! NOT JUST A FEW!!!!)? It means that you will start paying up to 25% of your pay to taxes. PLUS, if you are married and file jointly, it will cost you MORE than if you filed separately. PLUS you will now essentially be PENALIZED for having children! PLUS there's the minimum alternative tax system...don't even get me started on that system! CALL YOUR CONGRESS PEOPLE! TELL THEM YOU WANT YOUR MONEY! Congress people can be Idiots. Don't let them...
4) So I went to Wal-Mart tonight (yeah, there's a whole other disgruntled blog posting there...):
A) Is it just me, or if it's sold in the USA, it should be MADE in the USA? Wal-Mart doesn't sell ANY clothes made in the USA anymore (so I didn't get a new t-shirt)! What the heck??? Sam Walton's gotta be rolling over in his grave. Did you notice that about the same time Mr. Walton died is about the same time the "Made in the USA" promise stopped? But I digress. You know what? I'm pretty sure that if we kept some of the jobs in the USA, WE WOULDN'T HAVE A 9.5% UNEMPLOYMENT RATE (closer to 29%...YES TWENTY-NINE PERCENT...for Veterans!)!!! And that doesn't take into account the underemployed or the folks who have given up and quit filing for unemployment! C'mon folks, this isn't hard to figure out. If we produce items and have our customer service centers in the USA, people have jobs! The folks who have no work will be HAPPY to work, I'm sure. If they are not happy to work, then they are dependent upon the government, and that's not cool either (another rant post? Maybe...). There's something prideful about providing a service or good. Now, I'm not talking about becoming an isolationist nation...no. I'm just saying we shouldn't be DEPENDENT upon other nations for our goods, services and monetary loans! What happens when they stop trading with us? We're screwed. Nice to see that we are promoting a culture of dependency on others. And our government heads up the top of the offenders list on that. We CANNOT be dependent on others to provide us with things our countrymen should be providing for ourselves. Besides, you get what you pay for. So, if it costs you $5 a day to make textile in the Phillipenes, then you are getting a bunch of textiles made at 3cents or less a piece. And I'm NOT paying $15 for a 3cent shirt. It's just not good business sense. I'd rather pay more for good quality materials made that I know made a difference in a neighbor's life than support a corporate "far cat" with very little of my purchase trickling down to the actual worker because (let's be honest) worker's laws are NOT fair all-over the world. True charity starts by taking care of each other in our homes and neighborhoods. We must care for our own before we can care for others. So, let's bring back American Pride in American Made! If it's not made in the USA, I'm not buying it!
AND on the service front...just for once, when I call tech support and press "1" for English (again, ANOTHER pissed off blog post there), I would actually like to be able to understand the person on the line. Trust me, folks in India who are doing your tech support DO NOT speak American English...even after I press "1". Maybe if I go to these corporate offices and press "1" on their CEO's with my beatin' stilettos....
IDIOTS
B) I did by a broadband USB for my laptop. Not bad priced. BUT when I go to check out, I have to pay a 38cent fee for Fire and Police support???? Really? Okay, this isn't about the 38 cents....it's about the principal of the issue. Let me tell you A) if my USB ever gets stolen, I'd better get immediate support from the city of De Pere; no matter where I am! and B) seriously? This 'tax' (and let's be honest, that's what it is) is supposed to support the 911 call centers or whatever...what are my taxes paying for exactly? How about my mother's property taxes? Idiots. Use the tax money for what it is designated. Stay on friggen budget! If I go off budget, I don't get to just roll it over and start fresh at fiscal year! I either have to go without, return items for a refund, or face penalties/judgements/etc. Governments? They just seem to keep spending and assume someone will bail them out, lend them money (that they NEVER seem to pay back), or tax more folks. IDIOTS. One day, the public will revolt. Exhibit A) that "private" town in California that just went bankrupt and fired the majority of it's leadership...and after the firing, the towns-folks went on for 4 HOURS about the total disgust at the former leadership and the way all the changes and government pay increases were passed in a completely covered up method. $700,000+ to be a city manager? $300,000+ as the assistant city manager (who does WHAT exactly???)? $400,000+ as the police chief of 25 (NYC Police Chief only makes $205,000)? They were HUGE IDIOTS...
5) Dear State of Wisconsin: Really? A no-smoking ban in all restaurants and bars? You are SO concerned about my health...really? You'd show more concern if you'd arrest some of these idiots who are drinking and driving. I mean, I know prohibition of alcohol didn't work, but still. I'd really rather you'd let me smoke after dinner than to allow the drunks to be bigger idiots than normal on the road. (Yes, bigger than normal. It's a whole different breed of idiot that drives up here. How hard is it to be courteous and obey laws?) Besides, even AS a smoker, I have rights, too! Mine start immediately where the non-smoker's end. PLUS, numerous studies have proven that it take much less exposure to car exhaust to cause the same amount of damage and inhaling of carcinogens as sitting next to a smoker. Is this discrimination maybe? Because there aren't any other problems to worried about when folks go out to drink for the evening as to whether or not they are going to light a cigarette indoors...IDIOTS...
6) Dear Brown County: The US Army is not always the smartest knife in the drawer, but like 5 years ago they discovered that round-abouts actually cause more accidents and traffic congestion than they prevent, and eliminated them from installations world-wide. So what do YOU do? START building them and then add 28 more this year...ALL AT THE BUSIEST INTERSECTIONS IN THE COUNTY! That 38 cents I just paid at Wal-Mart is NOT going cover the problems your traffic directions are going to cause. People have problems with one-way streets! Folks cannot seem to take their turns. You REALLY can't see the problems arising from this? IDIOTS!
Okay...that's it for now...there's more, but I'm so pissed off I can't think straight.
Again, these are MY OPINIONS...and I'm entitled.
Of course, it's also my opinion that things would run better if WOMEN ran them!
What do YOU think???

Please Leave a Message at the Tone...
After two days of being in denial about it, it's official for me...
I'M HAVING A BREAKDOWN
For the record, I'm okay with this. It's healthy. Here's what happens:
It doesn't help that I'm supposed to be packed for this trip already. It sure doesn't help that I'm supposed to be set for my sister's baby shower (okay, I probably am. But I don't feel like it). It sure the heck doesn't help that it's HOT!
So while I might be on line here and there...I really don't plan on doing anything productive that I have to think about. I may not leave the house for a few days. I don't know. It's different every time. I know that I will probably get a lot snarky. Don't take everything you read at face value. Insert 5X's the normal sarcasm. I'm allowed to have an off day or two, too. Again, it's healthy.
I will let all know when I am back to being me. For right now, I'm just going to ponder the meaning of that white line around the edge of every STOP sign...it's been on my list of things to think about for a while. Later, I am going to recheck the inside of my eyelids for light leaks. Because I can.
I will still be here to handle EMERGENCIES and anything URGENT. And, if I 'owe' you something, you're probably going to see a mass of emails in the next 2 days...I'm working to catch up.
Right now, however, the DVR is calling my name....and it's using a box of Fruit Loops to lure me closer.
Love to all!

I'M HAVING A BREAKDOWN
For the record, I'm okay with this. It's healthy. Here's what happens:
- I get involved in a lot of projects
- I forget to take time for me and DEFINITELY don't spend enough time with God
- I have high personal standards on all projects
- I get "behind" and frustrated
- I take a few days off to read, pray, journal, and get caught up without taking on anything else (or really talking to a lot of folks...which freaks people out)
- I'm back to normal and I get back on the horse and back out there
It doesn't help that I'm supposed to be packed for this trip already. It sure doesn't help that I'm supposed to be set for my sister's baby shower (okay, I probably am. But I don't feel like it). It sure the heck doesn't help that it's HOT!

I'm BACK
It's been a while again since I've posted something. I've been a little overwhelmed with life. Nothing big...just all the little things added up. So, while I've been dealing I just haven't been writing.
Not much has changed. I'm still questioning and sarcastic. I am, however, a lot more organized. At least in thoughts.
...and of course I'm behind. Example: right now I'm supposed to be mowing the yard and finishing a baby shower. So instead of writing a lot, I'm just dropping a note to say that my goal is to be back yet tonight to give a time intensive blog. First, I'm going to go find some sinus headache meds and get a move on.
See you tonight =D

Walk Tall-y...and Carry a Stick
Today, I was out and about. A few errands. A meeting. A training. A visit with a friend.
As I was wandering around, I was watching people. I am a people watcher by nature. It's interesting to me to watch peoples' reactions to different things. So, as I'm watching people while running errands, I noticed a few things...and finally pieced together what a couple of my favorite quotes might mean...
1) I am like one of the few women in heels. What's up with that? I love heels. First, they are just classy as hell. Second, they make my legs look great (a miraculous feat in it self). Lastly, you just cannot pull off a dress/skirt with tennis shoes. I know. I've tried.
B) Very few of the others I saw in heels could walk in them. Now, I'm not a perfect "glider" by any means, but you must have a certain posture and step in heels...otherwise you just clomp. VERY unattractive! What's happened to walking tall? Head up, shoulders down and back, butt under, tummy tucked...and lead with the thighs ladies. It takes practice, but it's worth it.
2) I think I discovered what 2 of my favorite quotes mean. A) "Walk softly and carry a big stick" and B) "What you do speaks so loudly I can not hear what you say". Actually, the two go very closely hand in hand. I'm all about violence somedays; as with some people, that's the only thing that gets them to move their butts is the threat of bodily harm. Threat mind you. I'm not good about carrying it out. I don't like to get my hands dirty? I don't know. So, I've always been in tune with carrying a big stick. But I finally figured out I am wrong.
I am carrying that big stick because that is what I am using to measure where I hold myself. ....Maybe a diagram will work. Let's try this:
My expectations for me-----------------------------------------------------------
My expectations for others working with me------------------------------------
Actual Average level of performance for task--------------------------------
Today's concept of average level of performance for task-------------------
Below standard performance----------------------------------------------------
I have high standards, what can I say? And it does truly take VERY LITTLE to be above average! Why do a job half way when it takes just as much time and effort (maybe a little more energy and caring, tho) to do it excellently? I don't get it. "In any job big or small, do it well or don't do it at all" Why would you let average be your calling card? Trust me, people don't remember average.
But it does take a little more energy to be above average...it also take energy to yell. The same amount to do either, actually...you can only do one well at a time. Choose wisely. I choose to carry my measuring stick tor remind MYSELF of and show everyone I work with my expectations of myself...and to talk and walk softly so that I can devote all of my energy to doing things excellently. And trust me. I won't need to talk -loudly or otherwise-, my actions and accomplishments will speak for themselves! I am choosing to leave a legacy. People may not remember who I am (which is fine by me! I take a horrible photo for posterity....)...but they will benefit from what I have been a part of and have done. What are you doing?
I hope you choose to be a Blessing
and then give it your best.
If you're not giving your best, your wasting your time when you could be doing something else
(and quite possibly wasting the other person's time, too).
Life is too short to waste time doing a half way job...do it well the first time!
Only MY best!
*virtual HUGS* =D

It's a Beautiful Morning
Sad to say, but it's 11am...it's hot...and I'm...happy? Right?!?!? When the hell did that happen?
Seriously, though...you ever just have one of those days when you want to sing LOUDLY? (PS...I did...in the shower...the room of the house where EVERYONE in the building can hear me clearly. Good thing I sing in tune, hey?)
I went out front...two beautiful hibiscus flower are open today. The sun is shining...it's gonna be a HOT one! But it's better than rain =D
I have a list. But it means I'm busy.
I haven't seen this in a while...but I found it and figured it was fitting. Enjoy!
For What Am I Thankful This Day?
I heard a poor man softly say:
"The chance to earn my daily bread;
A place each night to lay my head;
A soft kind hand to ease my care,
A child's small voice to rise in prayer;
A special friend, both kind and true,
To help me right the wrongs I do;
To dwell where tyrants fear to tread,
Where freedom's flag floats overhead;
The faith to ask on bended knee,
Oh, God, may all men be rich like me!"
(I'm not sure of the author for proper credit...If you know, please let me know so I can post it!)
What are you doing to make this your BEST YOU today?
And what are YOU THANKFUL for???
Blessings

Ponderings about "Professional Volunteerism"
Do I care too much? Is that possible?
I am exhausted. I know that it's partially my fault. I know that the stress of everyday life lately is leading to me not sleeping worth crap. And sleeping at all hours...weird hours. I know this is my own fault to some extent.
But, with the events coming up and all that I want to do...it's leading me to think I care too much. Of course, I feel guilty for thinking that too. Why these thoughts?
I look around. I see people functioning in their own little worlds. They are not necessarily happy, but they are not giving to anyone but themselves, either. Now I am not saying that the more you give to others, the happier you are...but there DOES seem to be some sort of correlation there. The more I can look outwards, the more I can give back into the lives of others...the better I feel. Maybe it's because if I look inward I will see how boring I really am?...I don't know. But I just can't function in my own world.
I am connected, through no choice of my own, to hundreds -if not thousands- of other people. We cannot function only in our own spaces without touching others' spaces and lives. So we must interact. We must care for each other. We must thrive to survive. We cannot go through this life focused soley on ourselves. So I choose to give back. I choose to help. I choose to be a volunteer.
But it is tiring. I seem to be picking up the slack for those who prefer to focus only on themselves. You can't seem to beat caring into some of these folks' lives. "I don't have time" "I don't have money" "I don't have qualifications" "I have nothing to give that anyone would want"...excuses. And lousey ones at that. Everyone has something to contribute to the human race. Everyone can reach out -even if just an inch- and make someone else's life a little easier. WHY IS THIS SO DIFFICULT?
So I will continue to give. I will continue to devote myself to caring for others in the human race. I will continue to eat, sleep, and breathe love for my fellow humans.
Join me. Yes, it's tiring. Yes, some days there are no 'thank you' or appreciation. But the truth is, you can stand back and WATCH all you put into the lives of others...wouldn't you like to know you're making a positive difference?
...after all, THAT'S what it really is all about...no matter how tired I am!

FUBAR: ON POST Utility Billing
Okay. So today I head out the mailbox and there sits my utility bill from Ista (you know, the privatized billing company being used by the privatized housing company hired by the Army to screw me...that's another post all together, though). The bill is POSTMARKED 25 May 2010. The bill is DUE 27 March 2010. There is actually a note about a town hall happening at the Village Commons on 20 April! WTF?!?!?!
So, I call housing. "You have to call Ista". Yes, I slammed down the phone. NOT HAPPY.
So, I call Ista. "We're doing an audit, effective April 1st. Everything up to that point you owe. In fact, your account shows a balance of $20.04. Would you like to pay that now?" NO. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THIS IS THE FIRST INVOICE I'VE SEEN SINCE DECEMBER. I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHY THIS IS THE SAME THING THAT YOU TOLD MY FRIEND AND NEIGHBOR WHEN THEY CALLED IN FEBRUARY, WONDERING WHERE THEIR BILL WAS. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT THE AUDIT DATE WAS DIFFERENT.
...and I would like you to know that I AM going over your heads and going to garrison, JAG, IG, my congressman...who'll ever freakin' listen because this is BULLCRAP!!!
I am an independent business owner. If I pulled this CRAP on my customers, I'm pretty sure that A) I'd be out of business and B) I'd probably have a law suit or two on my hands!
Why is it okay for these privatized companies to think they can have the run of us because they are contracted by the Army?
I understand WHY the Army has contracted out certain services...I don't necessarily agree, but I get it. I just don't think that we should be treated like second-class citizens with no brains who don't know when they are getting fed a line...
Does anyone have the email address for the Garrison Command Office? I haven't talked to a COL in a while, I think I'll start there...

Starting Over
Begin Again. I do a lot of that. I don't seem to have a lot of will power to stay on task...so I fall off the wagon with whatever I'm working towards and must then begin again.
It's becoming a routine.
So, today -once more- I started over.
My goal, this year, is to get organized and manage my time. It hasn't been working out quite as I had planned. I seem to waste a lot of time on this computer. So, once again I have decided to use the list plan. Hopefully the joy of scratching off what I have done will keep me motivated to keep going and stay on task during the day. We'll see, I suppose.
One of the big deals to me staying on task is getting back to losing weight. The other one (because there really only are two!) is to be running my Mary Kay business...for which we need a 2nd car, but which I am going to have to really work to earn some money to get the 2nd car. Some days it's a running circle in my life.
So, the goals are big. The stakes are high. I know that I can't do it all in one day...I am just hoping that I can stay tracking for more than one!
Wish me luck!

Confessions of a Shopping & Saving Diva-Wanna-Be
Today we went up to Hopkinsville. It's not that we don't do that very often (well, I guess we don't, really), it's just that we never really do MUCH in Hop-town. So tonight we did more than just buzz through. We actually stopped a couple of places!
First stop: Dairy Queen. Originally the dinner plan -MY dinner plan- was Edelwiess Cafe in Clarksville. I've been, Neil hasn't. And lately he's said that he wants to try it...but I guess tonight wasn't the night. He wanted ice cream, so I caved in. And north to Hopkinsville we went.
From Dairy Queen, we headed north a bit more...Big Lots was the ultimate goal, as the Big Lots in Clarksville on Riverside probably was a little, well, soggy. Remember, the Cumberland crested above 62 feet last week -33 feet ABOVE flood stage!
So, north we headed. Stopped off quickly at Express Tan...ah, the tanning bed! So relaxing! Thanks again Monica, for getting me addicted to the warmth of a tanning salon. Anyway. Paid for "Endless Season" which thankfully begins next week. AWESOME!
Finally, on to Big Lots...which was PERFECT timing for shopping! I spent $38 and SAVED $160! I wound up with 2 prelit Christmas trees for my front porch, 12 rolls of Christmas wrapping paper, 4 rolls of Christmas transparent paper, 4 sets of red, white and green curling ribbon, 2 Scrappy packs, a set of outdoor deck lights, a silver guest book pen, and a pack of those skinny colored markers that we all wanted in 3rd grade. My hubby was SO happy that I've stocked up on Christmas wrapping paper in the off OFF season...26 cents a roll...WHO can beat that?!?!! (The rest of the stuff he really didn't give a thought to.)
So, now to put stuff away. But I'm already planning to head back up this weekend to pick up more transparent paper and scrappy packs! YEA =D
Who's not happy to get a GREAT DEAL!
...ah, the pleasures of shopping a discount stores...never underestimate what you can find!
Happy Shopping=D

Talking and Walking...AT THE SAME TIME!
You've heard the expression - "Talk the talk and Walk the walk". Did you ever think how hard that can be some days?
Before you ask, I have NO idea where this post comes from. Apparently something deep (I mean WWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY deep) inside my conscience, along with all the CRAP I've been reading on a forum that I haven't logged into in like f-o-r-e-v-e-r has just GOT to me tonight.
Look, I'm not the all around perfect person by any means. I fall short of many many many things I want to do and be. It irks me, though, to look around and see just how crappy, awful, self-absorbed, and self-centered we've all become. We all know what's right. And it's hard to live that way, I know. HOWEVER...wouldn't the world just run smoother if we could all talk about the way it should be and then walk towards it? Great idea, let's try it. All together now, because the first step is the hardest...
No, seriously.
So the other day, I'm glancing over a social networking site that I'm on, and one of my friends has posted something about how they are Christian, "but" sometimes the non-Christian side just has to come out when you pushed them too far (or something like that. Definitely NOT word for word there! And if you are reading this and think it may be you, well, deal with it because it's MY opinion in this blog. I am not bashing you. I just have a difficult time with what you wrote.). Look, I'm not trying to start a religious debate here. I'm just saying that I'm pretty sure the hardest part of being a Christian is doing only good, even to those that hurt you.
Remember "BUT" negates everything that comes before it.
So, what am I trying to do, change the world? Maybe. How hard would it be to live our values and ethics, creeds and codes (and I'm NOT just talking about Soldiers, here!). How difficult would it be to be a good citizen; a kind human being? (What's that quote? "Human beings being human") To reach down and pick up that trash (be proud of your community). To volunteer for our youth ("...the children are our future"). To volunteer for each other (a community has a common goal). To care a little less about ourselves -monetarily (you can't take it with you). To come together to celebrate and have fun (where are the picnics and block parties?). To share and preserve memories (the storytelling generation is gone). To support each other and support our Troops (I would bet that there are people who don't even know we are still IN Iraq and Afghanistan). To enjoy fresh food (not just to be healthy either! We complain that there's "nothing to eat", yet there are starving children dying every day). To get out and enjoy the out of doors (there are places in this world that you cannot do that because of the violence). To spend time with our loved ones (we are not immortal, and we cannot get that time back once it is gone).
How am I going to change my corner of the world? Little by little. Step by step. By living the example in my own life and sharing it with others. No longer will I keep my beliefs about living correctly to myself, or just down on paper (more on THAT one in a second). I will not only encourage others; I will help them move towards a more peaceful DRAMA FREE life.
And as for "down on paper": I have a LOT of things that are just that. For example: My HH6 BattleBook. Being a former-FRG Leader, it should be 100% up-to-date. Well, it's close. We're struggling, though, to get those final pieces together. Sometimes I can talk the talk very very well. I know my resources and I am sure that I could handle just about anything that comes my way. I know, though, that it all needs to be together and in my “go bag”. I also know that I need to do more to be prepared for emergencies. I talk the talk on that one, too. And for those of you that know me, I can rattle off LOTS of nutrition and health information. Do I live it? Well not so much. That's going to change, too.
So check back with me. See where I am going.
I encourage you to come along for the journey. After all, what could it hurt?

Big Brass...We have a problem.
I'm pretty sure this is going to get some one into trouble. And I'm okay with that. Because it pisses me off!
I realize I'm old fashioned, but...
So tonight, at like half past midnight, I went to the shoppette. COMPLETELY forgot that they close day and reopen on their computer system at this time. So I would up standing in line for like 10 minutes. There were 8 people ahead of me, and like 4 people behind me when I started noticing a few things...
1) Alcohol. I am the ONLY person in line without alcohol. Is it just me, or is this a HUGE demonstration of the alcohol problem we have in the Army? Seriously, THE ONLY PERSON WITH OUT ALCOHOL. And the ones that joined the line after me (7 more before the computers came back up and the line started moving) all had alcohol, too. Not cool.
2) Dress code...or lack of enforcement. Now, for those who did NOT see my Facebook post the other night, let me refresh that...and then move on.
"Okay folks, it's called a DRESS CODE! Yes! This installation has one. Abide by it. I don't care WHAT time of night it is, it is INAPPROPRIATE to go to the shoppette in your cotton nighty and slippers! EW!"...and it's not just on Fort Campbell, Lakisha commented: "You must be on schofield tonight. I saw something similar but a man. Out of uniform, PT shirt on, slippahs with white socks, pants on the ground, and a doo rag! Say it aint so! My goodness, if not on the installation, where can we enforce a dress code! I'm with ya this sister!"
Here's the deal, folks. ON Fort Campbell (and for Soldiers, this actually applies ANYTIME on or off post, on or off duty, and even on leave...read the regs!) THERE IS A DRESS CODE! Civilians, too, are required to abide by this code while on Fort Campbell. Need a refresher? Read the "Blue Book". Haven't seen it? I can get you a copy! Civilian friends who never set foot on a military installation- have pride in your appearance- Just because it's "fashionable" does NOT always mean it's appropriate.
Case A) My cashier is in pajama pants, a tank top, AND SLIPPERS! What is this, a slumber party? What happened to khaki's and a polo? Really! Is it too much to ask for the employees at the place that I do business to look semi-professional? I mean, I understand that since 9/11, the military (who also runs AAFES) has abandon the Class B professional uniform because we are at war (THAT'S another blog entry all together!), but I'm pretty sure that THAT is not what they meant.
Case B) The Soldier in front of me with his boxers showing. PULL UP YOUR PANTS...YOU LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT! If the world was meant to see your boxers, they'd be called "outer pants" not "under pants". If you don't pull them up, I will. And to make sure they STAY up, I am going to tie them around your neck.
Case C) While James Dean looked cool in a white t-shirt and jeans, you just look like you forgot your shirt at the mistress' when you jumped out the window because her hubby came home. Again, it's an UNDER shirt. It gets worn UNDER a collared shirt, not as a "look". You don't like it? Wear a printed t-shirt or a sweatshirt. And YES, it's actually IN the "Blue Book"...which, by the way, is an actual regulation not just a suggestion.
3) Cell phones. Look. I know that they are convenient. HOWEVER, I don't want to hear about your plans for later tonight. Or what you did today. Or ANY other conversation from only your end of the phone, for that matter. Are you REALLY that important that you HAVE TO have it pressed to your ear while in line? Don't get me wrong, I have a cell phone, BUT...it's not used in line or in public, for that matter. I will step outside to have a conversation on it...the world doesn't have to be in on it. And, here's another BLUE BOOK item for you...YOU DON'T WALK AND TALK OR DRIVE AND TALK ON YOUR CELL PHONE. The walk and talk is AT ALL! including with a hands-free. The drive and talk is without a hands-free; with a hands-free, you can drive while talking. (Don't get me started on the idiots that text and drive!) Civilians, this goes for YOU TOO!
4) If you're buzzed, you're drunk...and you don't need more alcohol; and you PROBABLY shouldn't be out in public (you run the risk of running into me, and I could put you through a wall for being an idiot). I understand that the shoppette sells it 24/7, but you need to man up and realize when you've had enough. And if you are too intoxicated to do so, your friends should stop you -with a cider block if necessary. You would THINK that shoppette folks wouldn't sell to folks who are already drunk, but I witnessed it tonight. With out blinking an eye, too. So much for social and community responsibility.
5) Grammar.
Okay kids. Here's the deal. Now, I haven't been in school in like 10 years, but I'm pretty sure that they still teach grammar. You know, adjectives and adverbs and conjunctions. If you didn't learn these in school, we're going to find ourselves some episodes of "Schoolhouse Rock" and learn a little...because when F*** is EVERY.OTHER.WORD. it's more than a little annoying! There are other words out there! Lots of great adjectives! AND I'm pretty sure that the Army actually frowns upon vulgarity....not that you can tell from being in any of the offices I've been in. But it's a respect thing, too (oh look, those Army Values again). Respect me enough to use OTHER words in the English language!
And on grammar, I know that bad grammar had become socially acceptable...but there HAS to be a line! For example "We was gonna..." is incorrect. It is "We WERE GOING TO..." You all know who you are! Clean it up and learn the language!
6) POT IS ILLEGAL! I don't care how much you think it shouldn't be. And if I smell it coming from your car (ESPECIALLY ON A MILITARY INSTALLATION!!!! AND YOU ARE A SOLDIER!!!!) YES I AM GOING TO CALL THE MP'S! Deal with it. "Oh, it's not harmful" WHATEVER! I don't buy that! Anyway, it's still illegal!!! Just the same way that I, personally believe that a military member between 18 and 21 should be considered old enough to drink because they are old enough to VOLUNTARILY sign up to serve and possibly die for their country. BUT the law says 21, so I will NOT be serving or purchasing for underage. It's not about what we personally believe SHOULD be legal or allowed by law or regulation, but what actually is. Following the law is part of being a good law-abiding citizen, being a "squared away" Soldier, and living the Army Values.
...I mean, am I expecting too much????

Spacial Concepting in Today's Army
Okay folks...this one's a bit of a rant. So, if you don't want to hear it, leave now....
Anyone still here? Surprise, surprise. Okay, here it is.
Duffel bags vs. Army gear.
I don't care WHY you're packing the stuff up: deployment, TDY, school, field training, inspection, or road march...the packing list you have, well, probably has some problems.
For example, I bet you that the packing list you were issued is from the LAST deployment (or older). Some of the stuff you don't have anymore...or you have it, yet NEVER USE IT...but it's gotta go in. And THEN, they've issued replacement items...so those have to go in, too.
I bet you that whomever "made" or pulled this list never tried to get it all in the bag, either. Um, there's definitely some space constraints in a duffel bag! If you have never tried to stuff one full, envision stuffing all your household goods into the back of a Geo Metro....it's pretty much the same thing. Oh yeah, and you're going to have to leave the windows up and the doors closed on the Geo to do it...only allowed to load through the hatch. ALL your furniture needs to go in...good thing some of it comes apart, right? Yeah, you've got the idea.
Not only is there not enough space for the stuff ON the list, occasionally the Army likes to issues boat-loads of NEW stuff. Like the new 4-layer ECW gear (for those NOT military, that's the 8-piece-will-keep-you-warm-in-like-50-below-temperatures-jackets-and--pants-sets). I mean, really? When WILL we be deploying troops to Siberia exactly? I didn't realize we were at war in Antarctica...
And that's just the tip of the ice burg (no pun intended).
Which leads me to another rant, kind of along the same line. So far, the hubby packed up 1 tuff box, an over stuffed MOLLIE pack, a crammed full duffel bag, a stuffed Assault pack...and now he's packing up a 2nd tuff box. And we still haven't packed his laptop or his "I Love Me" binder (where those two items are going, I do not know. He's not high enough up on the food chain for more than his Assault pack as a carry on...). Okay, seriously folks. I'm pretty sure that the guys in WWII did not parachute into Normandy with this much CRAP! Why do we need ALL this stuff? Don't get me wrong, I understand 1) newer, better gear will protect my Soldier and 2) we are becoming quite wussy (Army "strong" might actually be a myth for most, trust me), but -for example- knee pads? REALLY? RRRREEEEAAAALLLLLLLLLYYYY?????? C'MON! And then there's the 600 items to keep the hubby warm...3 sets of poly-pros, the new EWC set (again, like 8 pieces), 2 sets of tan "ninja wear", 2 sleeping bags and a sleeping mat, Gortex (2 sets...one old, one new), 3 pairs of cold weather gloves PLUS 5 sets of inserts -just in case, maybe? I don't know-, 2 pairs of cold weather boots (COLD weather boots? Can't we deal with just one pair...MAYBE 2 tops...but 2 pairs cold weather brings boot totals to 3 pairs PLUS J-List over shoes). Don't even get me started on J-List! And then there are the items ON the list that they can't even WEAR/USE...example, boonie caps. ...C'MON! There HAS to be an easier way! UGH!
So, anyone who has any suggestions as to the packing configuration of a semi-load of gear into a duffel bag...I'm open to it. And big brass, if you're listening, we don't need MORE stuff...we need CIF to take back the old stuff (still have lots of BDU and DCU pattern stuff that CIF WON'T TAKE BACK, but has been replaced with the new patterns or models and is STILL ON THE CLOTHING RECORD!) and slim down the "fighting load" you're expecting each Soldier to maintain for deployment, etc.

Thank you for your time.

...and my cat is jealous...
Tonight, we brought home what will turn out to be a major purchase. A 1893 Baldwin upright piano in INCREDIBLE condition! This is my new baby. And Tommie Cat is PISSED...
Not because there's a new "thing" in the house, but because 1) he's not allowed on the keyboard (when the cover's open) and 2) because I've spent about 3 hours "plunking" it since we've had it moved in. Oh, and I sing along as I play...which he reminds me that he's not appreciative of. My ankles have been torn to shreds in protest...time to start wearing socks.
Now, this purchase is not quite through, yet. The piano itself will need a little work...a tuning for one (although it does sound pretty good!) and probably a revoicing, as some of the tones are a little off. BUT, we only paid $300 for it (plus $35 to move it...you need a mover in the Fort Campbell area? I HIGHLY recommend "A Man With A Truck"! He was AWESOME!!!...tipped him in Girl Scout cookies, and I have a difficult time parting with those!). So, I figure if I have to sink a bit into it to get it sounding perfect, so be it. It's a full-to-floor console. Sound board seems good. Even the strings seem to be in GREAT condition. The cabinet is BEAUTIFUL! This was a great investment.
Which brings me to my husband and our latest "fight"...well, not fight as much as disargeement. And not "latest" as much as completely on going...for all of our married life. But THIS version may be partially the Army's fault...
So, since we've gotten to Fort Campbell, we have -shall we say?- amassed 'things'...furniture, knick-knacks, dishes, books...a lot of stuff. Now, some of this is due to free-cycle and "junking" (seriously, junking used to be a HUGE past time). We have gotten some really great stuff though! Part of this amassment is my addiction to thrift stores and antique shops and yard sales (and whomever decided it was a brilliant idea to put up a website and essentially run an area wide, 24/7 yardsale...FYI my hubby wants your life!). Now...before you label me a "shop-a-holic" or a hoarder...please realize that I am a deal hunter! I am on a search for specific items (although I have been known to purchase something because it's "cute") and specific quality (I don't by aluminum pieces to "supplement" my silver and hollow-ware items). I have a "master list" of items that I want. For example: I have about $1500 worth of silver and hollow-ware with FireKing inserts (think "buffet-style" serveware dishes) and I've only paid about $250...you've GOT to love thrift stores! And, after the work is done on my piano, I'm going to have to up my renter's insurance by like $8000 (after the work, it should appraise as a Grade IV or V, which should value it at near $8000+). So, it's not like I am buying junk here. But the problems I face are this...
1) My husband does not understand that I am on the move to furnish our home with things that will last. It breaks my heart to see "the pile" when people PCS. You will not see that here. We've gotten rid of all our junk this spring. All that's left in they house are good or best quality. It will either be refinished and / or taken care of and treasured; traveling with us until AT LEAST retirement OR refinished and / or taken care of and then donated or sold upon PCS. Now, that being said, I realize that there are pieces in my home that need to be refinish or worked on...and it's on the list for the next 13 months. I will post pictures of the projects.
2) The Army only gives us 8800 pounds for House Hold Goods (HHG) on a PCS. This is only a problem if we're going to let the government move us...which will only happen if the hubby isn't around to help me. If we do a DITY and are over, we just don't "make" as much. So it's not too much of a problem (and an OCONUS move will be self move to and store in Green Bay near Mom...just the basics overseas, Alaska or Hawaii). I mean, the piano weighs probably close to 1000 pounds itself. I just don't do light furniture! Apparently the Army feels that anyone who purchases a piano to move with them then doesn't need any dining room furniture or bedroom furniture...I'm pretty sure on a government move, your weight allowance doesn't "afford" you both
On the same note as reason 1 above...the hubby is pissed because yesterday I spent almost $100 on plants. I want plants outside, what can I say?!?!? The majority of them are perannuals, so it was money well spent. AND I will be digging them up for transport at PCS time, so it's not like I'm "gifting" the new residents of my building anything. He's still not happy though. He must not have faith in my flower growing abitlities... (NEWSFLASH...neither do I, but I WILL MAKE THIS GROW AND LOOK BEAUTIFUL!).
I'm not sure if I bought the piano because I wanted a beautiful showpiece in my home, or because I miss music that much. In high school, I lived and breathed music. And I miss that. I want to be able to sing and "plunk". I don't know. It's in my soul, I suppose.
The cat must have gotten over the jealousy. He's curled up on the couch purring next to me. Maybe he's just telling me it's time for bed.
Music back into my life; that's what it's all about. Now, to re-teach myself to play...

Questioning....
Mortality. His, not mine.
Note to self: Right now, the sad songs on the iPod are not a good idea to be listening to. So, shuffle is not an option. Please remember that. One song, no matter how great the message, can set me off right now.
I spent a number of hours last night crying my eyes out. And then didn't sleep well. I have a lot of questions now...most that I can't answer.
Like:
If my hubby were to die, would I continue to live near the military community or move back to Green Bay?
How would I support myself?
What can I do to be prepared?
Well, the last one isn't too hard...there are a TON of resources out there. And I read and bookmarked a LOT of them last night. Because, like FRGL training here at FTCKY, Care Team training and training for trauma in the unit pretty much SUCK! (Learned that in March). So, I am going to need to resources and information on hand.
Time to binder some stuff together to be ready for the worst. And get as much preparation for the worst for both of us...
...more tears I'm absolutely sure.
I'm sure that at one time or another during I will need a good cry and will sit and listen to the playlist of sad (yet patriotic) music that I created last night. And I will BAWL! But right now, I need to function and that means none of that music.
And it means that I will need to work on answering some very difficult questions that we've both been putting off his entire military career. But if the worst were to happen, we'd be prepared.
...although, this is going to SUCK!

My Failure =(
You ever have one of those days? You know, when it just hits you (as you are giving the lecture that it's not "their" fault buddy, it's yours) that you are partially or mostly to blame for the situation? Yeah. 8am today started that way.
Today was weight & tape at the unit. And I knew the hubby was going to need to be taped. I mean, 195lbs? Not in his wildest dreams. He just has too much muscle (and I'm not just saying that...we're both solid...neither one of us will EVER see our "ideal" weight and still be healthy). So the tape was inevitable. And he taped at 24%...his max!
Now, I know that we don't eat the most healthily...and that's pretty much my fault...although I am kinda blaming the parents on that one, too. He doesn't like vegetables. Of course, he also doesn't know what he's missing! But back to how this one is my fault.
I used to push him to go to the gym...go running...whatever. Since he sliced his hand, oh four years ago, I haven't bugged him much about it.
Now, I know, I'm probably not one to talk. If you have met me, you know that. But...I feel that as an Army Wife, I have let my hubby and myself down. And yes I'm whining about it...and being a little self-piting...and possibly a little hard on myself (but....)....deal with it. (It's MY blog and I can!)
So today starts the new chapter in our lives. Both of us are going to get healthy...whether we like it or not!
See you at the gym!

Back Home, and Back Behind
So I had today planned. Find the totes of FRG materials in the garage. Finish the FRG powerpoint. Finish the FRG display. Finish the FRG weblink list.
Have I mentioned that I need a root canal? Yeah. It's becoming apparently obvious that I will probably NOT make it to July without one.... =( HUGE SAD FACE!!!!
So, what did I do today? Not much on the FRG front. Of course, it probably didn't help that when I called the orderly room on Thursday, the CO hadn't done A THING to help me. So, I am going to have to finish what I can tomorrow (Sunday) and plan for the worst when I walk into the office for my meeting with the CO on Monday afternoon. (She'll probably forget about the meeting anyway.)
I also need to update the forum stuff...oops, I forgot to post chapter 7. Okay. So THAT'S first thing (sorry Deb!). Then, on to the information exchange stuff and weekly enews. Not too difficult. I can handle that!
The house and yard need some attention tomorrow, too. It's springtime in "Tuckassee" and all the friggen trees have pollenated over, well EVERYTHING! There's a fine layer of greenness on anything outside....EW! So cleaning is in order.
I also need to work out. It never fails, I go to Green Bay, I put on atleast 4 pounds =(
Other than that, it's normal Sunday stuff! Gotta fix Neil's haircut. And Army Wives is on. Let's see if my cable box wants to work tomorrow. Probably not though.
And to Pat, I am sorry that we didn't make it back over tonight. Sleep (tylonel induced) was much needed to help relieve the throbbing in my jaw (Get your head out of the gutter! I need a friggen root canal!!!!). I will be over to just hang out soon.
Now, to cuddle and sleep with my handsome-yet-majorly-geeky hubby.
Night all!

Back to the ol' home away from home...Denny's
So, it's another 2am in Green Bay, and I'm at Denny's soaking up some much needed FB time. However there are 2 things on my mind.
First, there is a table of about 8 gentlemen of middle eastern genes sitting near the windows. No, my first thought is NOT terrorists. My ONLY thought (as I shoot them nasty looks) is WELCOME TO AMERICA! WE SPEAK ENGLISH! LEARN IT! I can't stand gibble...and I don't care where you are from.
My second thought is...I should be in bed. I have a cake to decorate at 9am...and I need a shower in the morning. *Sigh...vacations are not really vacations.
PS...no I haven't finished rosters yet. I've gotten a little side tracked in the past 2 months. Oh, wait...it's only been 2 days. Why does it feel like we got here years ago?
My lil' sister is back in the hospital. She's pregnant. About 4 months. But, she hasn't been keeping anything down for the last 3 months. 2 weeks ago they put a pick line into her heart for nutrition. Last night she wound up back at the hospital...sick...with a staph infection. Not just an infection, she was septic. Nice. My sister can't do anything half-way. She's a medical mess.
I'm actually looking forward to seeing my cousin in a couple of weeks...oops, I mean 3 days. I love just chatting with her. I've just got so much to do between now and then, it feels like forever till Monday will get here!
Maybe I have too much on my plate?
Nope, right now the only thing on a plate is my quesadilla. And I'm hungry. Although I'm sure that eating this directly before bed isn't a good idea for my weight-loss plan. But then again, who cares tonight.
..still looking for walkers for WTA....
Right now, on to dinner.

I'm Going Through a Slump.
You have have one of those days when you're just not passionate about anything? Not even coffee today. (Which will probably get me checked in to the psych ward...) Barely about breathing...
I've quit being passionate about relieving stupidity in my little corner of the world. The stupid brick wasn't as effective as I thought it would be, and they took away my knitting needles (wanna know why? ...use your imagination).
I'm also done beating the deadhorse. If people haven't gotten it by now, they're just going to nod and smile and come back to me for answers about it anyway. I'm going to be conserving air this way...
I'm done with my list of dreams. Not enough energy or time or money.
So. There.
*NOTE: I will probably be back to all the above items tomorrow. Tonight, I am just exhausted. And tired. (And yes, there is a difference.)

To: Head Doctor, Watson Computer Hospital
Dear Dr. Chris,
THANK YOU for saving the hubby's laptop! It's wonderful to NOT have him logging me out of everything all the time. You are truly a miracle worker and a dear, dear friend.
All my respect,
-N
PS. Please feel free to bill TRICARE for all the necessary procedures you performed in this operation. If they give you any flack, please refer them to their "life, limb, or eyesight" policy that negates the need for a referral to a specialist. Let's be honest...you saved the Dell's life! Thank you =)

Dear FH, ...You may owe back stupid taxes (which you may pay to Chris...)
Dear FH,
While I completely acknowledge that the military does not have to, by any law, provide housing for it's members' dependents AND that I do not HAVE to reside on post in your housing units, I have several grievences. And I'm about to air them. So DEAL!
1) Resident neglect of units is only resident neglect if the resident doesn't call maintainence to file a work order twice and no one shows to fix the problem. Nice that it took 2 seperate housing employees to see the problem with the ceiling in my bathroom before anyone would fix it. (And "we have no record of you calling to get a work order" may be true, but I did. To solve this problem, see #9) Very nice. And then you try to tell me that I am at fault? I don't think so.
2) I shouldn't have call in a work order for a rubber stopper for my bathtub. That's just stupid. I should be able to walk into self-help and pick it up! Especially since the water here is so full of calcium that it basically eats through the rubber.
3) And while I am on problems with the bathroom...I shouldn't have to dump draino down my shower drain every other week to allow the free flow of water so that I am not standing in a lake at the end of a 5 minute shower! There's a problem, and it's not my hair shedding that's causing the clog.
4) On the water subject, when you don't leave me a shut off valve for my kitchen pipes and they break and ruin my kitchen cabinets, you should think about replacing the cabinets...not just throwing a piece of plywood over the water-damaged and molding/mildewing bottom. EW..and stinky. But hey, it's not rotted out yet, so what do you care?
5) By the way, it's nice to now have a smoke detector that works...although I might be the only unit in my building that does. Who knows, right? You're doing safety upgrades as you have time.
6) As for upgrades, if you are replacing all horizontal blinds with vertical as people move out, even though you have 2 years to implement the change installation wide, you should be doing it to ALL UNITS AS PEOPLE MOVE OUT REGARDLESS OF THE CONDITION OF MOST OF THE BLINDS! Seriously. It's not fair to charge people for blinds that are going to be replaced within the next two years just because "most" of the rest of the home's blinds are in good shape and therefore you can't justify it because of the blinds' condition, don't have time, or don't have the money to do all the units as folks move out. That's lazy. And if it's a money issue, see #8 for a money saving tip. (If you are so concerned about the horizontal ones posing a stranglization hazard for children, then be concerned with every unit NOW! or quit using that as an excuse to spend more money.) Better yet, just change them out all ready and be done with it. This is especially true when it's YOUR door handles on the patio doors that are causing the damage to your blinds!
7) If the gutters on the 2nd floor are blocked and flooding MY first floor patio, I should be able to call in a work order for the 2nd floor gutters. This is just common sense. But of course I can't because I am not the 2nd floor resident.
8) Hiring contractors to mow the units' lawns -fenced in or not- was just a stupid idea and a waste of money. They do a lousy job. Period. Don't even get me started! If they are going to be able to drive heavy machinery on my lawn the day after a soaking rain and create ruts in the yard: a) don't even THINK about telling me that I have to have the yard back to what it was when I moved in. It's not going to happen. b) I should be allowed to drive a u-haul on my lawn to move in or out of my unit. It's not going to be any worse than what the contractors are doing. I'm not even going to START on what you COULD be allocating that money for!
9) I am sick and tired of dealing with people who are rude or don't know what they are talking about or lose paperwork. Hire decent people. Teach them customer service and secretary skills. Oh, and if I'm going to have to be transfered or on hold constantly, please consider investing in some hold music.
10) Yearly routine maintence is only "yearly" and "routine" if you are routinely doing it yearly. I bet that I won't see or hear of this program again for at LEAST two years!
11) Work with the MPs and figure out who rules what. I am sick of getting citations for stupid stuff that a) I didn't do. and b) isn't actually a violation of regulations. However, the ones that are parked on their lawns or the sidewalks, or violate other regulations get NOTHING because you say "it's an MP issue" and the MPs say "that's a housing issue". Get together, make up your minds and stick to it! And by-the-way, quit sticking notifications in my mailbox. If it doesn't have a post mark, or isn't outgoing, it's illegal to do so. Besides, one good wind and the notice is down the road!
12) And on the topic of the yard-nazis...I bet you that some of my hubby's BAH is going to fuel those little golf carts. Novel idea, get off your butt and walk! Oh wait, we haven't allocated money for sidewalks. Or people are parked on the sidewalks. Deal with it. A little exercise won't hurt anyone.
13) Oh yeah. My Christmas lights, which were down on the 13th of January thank you very much. I bet you weren't citing people who put them up November 1st, were you? What's the deal? Be consistant!
14) The Mayoral program. That's pretty much a joke in itself. Would have been nice to have had a job description and an idea of what the program was. Now that I am NOT involved, I get a phone call asking me if I want to be. Seriously? I'd love to, but....well, the last time I was involved (for almost a year), I did NOTHING, because there was no direction, job description, or communication. Have you fixed those problems?
15) Get in touch with DPW and get the street lights fixed! It's constantly dark on the resident streets. Isn't that a safety and security issue?
16) Provide the proper materials to residents upon move in. Most of us don't get a resident's guide, CAM PAM 500-1 (Emergency preparedness...which is SUPPOSED TO be in each residence), or a self-service center item replacement schedule.
17) Return emails and phone calls. It's just a common courtesy. You'd probably have a lot fewer pissed off residents if there was communication AND/OR the people on the lower end of the food chain who answer the phones were authorized to assist residents.
18) Who wallpapers a bathroom? Who puts beige-ish carpet in a home that will have multi-tenants over 10 years? Really? REALLY?!?!?!? C'mon now....
That all being said, I WILL continue to reside on post. Mostly because I enjoy a challenge...this one being: Work Reform On the Way Privatized Housing Is Being Run While Making The Housing Company Think It Was All Their Idea To Change Things And Improve.
Let's see how well this works.
Sincerely,
-N
